Solar Cell Towers

A massive initiative is underway by all of India’s cell tower companies to migrate their infrastructure to solar power, from existing diesel power solutions.

There are a total of 250,000 cell phone towers in India that can be converted to the renewable energy solution. The project has the potential to reduce 5 million tons of CO2 emissions, and US$1.4 billion in cost savings for the tower companies.; not to forget carbon credits and RECs. Under the Indian government’s Union budget, the government has committed to subsidise 50% on solar panels for the projects.

But can we put our thoughts on some of the challenges that no one seems to talk about “Security”- many tower companies face extra costs  due to diesel thefts. In such a scenario how will the tower companies assure security of solar panels?

We, along with our investors,  are working on OPEX model for use of solar energy at banks, cell towers, hospitals, hotels and townships; where the billing is as per the usage.  We welcome enquiries from real estate developers looking to develop townships in areas facing power shortage, banks exploring ATMs in rural villages, and hotel chains across India.
