PV production in China expanding

China is looking at a production of 7000-8000 MW in solar PV in 2010; which is nearly twice the 2009 production of 4011MW. Experts fear that this will lead to overcapacity by 2011.

China’s PV industry has matured faster than the world average growth rate since 2004; with China now poised to lead the world in solar cell and module manufacturing capacity expansion.  Chinese companies now account for 7 out of 10 biggest producers in global PV industry with a total of 6.4 GW of PV manufacturing expansion this year.

Some of the big Chinese companies are LDK Solar, Suntech Power, JA Solar, Yingli Green Energy, Tianwei New Energy, Trina Solar, Jinko Solar.

Indian companies getting in solar manufacturing for exports will need to take note of the competition from China.
