Budget 2011 on Solar- A quick look

The Indian Budget

1. Reduced the import duty on PV cells and modules to zero.

And the National Mission was talking about building the solar module manufacturing base in India. Though the JNNSM mandates the use of Indian built modules; other State policies leave the decision to the PPA holding company.

2. Other equipments such as Inverters, Mirrors, Receivers, etc have been completely ignored.

3. The Minimum Alternate Tax has been increased to 18.5%.

Margins will be effected and we may see some more negotiation in M&A / JV deals.

This is just a quick look at the budget w.r.t solar. We will study the budget in detail w.r.t the clean tech sector and the real estate space.
